Comprehensive Energy Modernisation of the Albert Retail Network (35+ Locations)
Project introduction and context
ENAT prepared energy assessments for extensive technology modernisation across the Albert retail network under the OP TAK and OPPIK programmes between 2019 and 2025.
Client and scope
Client: Albert Česká republika, s.r.o.
Consultant: ENAT, s.r.o.
Scope: at least 35 locations – a portfolio of hypermarkets and supermarkets across the Czech Republic (including Brno, Ostrava, Plzeň, Liberec, Olomouc, Hradec Králové, Karlovy Vary, Jihlava, Most and others).
Period: 2019–2025.
Key technical solutions
- Refrigeration modernisation: installation of systems using natural refrigerants, replacement of obsolete compressors and use of booster/ejector technology.
- Waste heat recovery: recovery of heat from the refrigeration process for water heating and store heating.
- Energy-efficient LED lighting: replacement of indoor and outdoor systems with modern LED luminaires and smart controls.
- HVAC optimisation: modernisation of air-handling units with heat recovery.
Total benefits achieved
Total across all stores:
- total annual energy savings: 4,964 MWh/year (approximately 17,870 GJ/year),
- total reduction in greenhouse-gas emissions: 3,600 t/year,
- average savings per site: typically 30–42% of non-renewable primary energy compared with the baseline.
Environmental and subsidy context
In addition to reducing operating emissions, potential emissions are reduced on a large scale by replacing synthetic refrigerants with high global warming potential (GWP) with environmentally preferable alternatives. The energy assessments were prepared in accordance with the methodology of the subsidy calls, and the projects were recommended for implementation by the energy specialist. Investment subsidies were awarded to the submitted projects, and follow-up energy assessments confirmed the expected energy savings in actual operation.
